I just found out that a good friend of mine was shot today.

Before I go into what happened, let me explain a few things. I live in a small town in North Alabama. Things like this don't happen here. The last time an officer was shot around here was in 1969. Does that tell you something? If you want the full story go to WHNT and click on two officers shot in Athens.

This is how I understand things to have gone down. Someone called the police department wanting the FBI to come to his house. He then changed his mind and said that if the FBI couldn't come then send some police officers. My friend was the first one there. As he was getting out of the car, the guy stepped out of his house and shot him. As the second officer was pulling up, he was shot through the windshield. He never even got out of the car. The guy then went to the middle of the road, took off his shirt, put down his gun and waited for more officers to come. Two men who happened to see the whole thing, when they saw that the man was now unarmed, went over and help him until help arrived. As of right now, no one knows why this guy did this. Not that it really matters. One officer had a wife and 4 children, the other had a wife and 5 children. These are small children, they will never really know their fathers.

There's so much I want to say about this, but I just don't know how. All these emotions are all mixed up inside. I lost a good friend, and these children lost their fathers. Life is so very unfair. But no one ever promised that is was. If you will pray for these families. They reallly need all the prayers they can get.

If you're parents are alive, go to them and tell them how much you love them. If you are a parent, go to your children, and love on them. You never know when it will be too late.
